Community Organizing Space (COS)

The vision of the Community Organizing Space (COS) is to support and strengthen social justice movements and community organizing. Our mission is to develop a dynamic and vibrant meeting space to support the work of groups and organizations that empower communities such as low-wage workers, racialized groups, migrant and immigrant populations and others experiencing poverty and systemic barriers. We also welcome the participation of groups that align and support our mission and values.

We know that access to affordable, accessible meeting space is essential to support the work of grassroots initiatives, non-profit organizations, unions, foundations or other socially-minded groups. For that reason we have developed a sliding rental scale to provide flexible options.

We aspire to create a base of partners and develop a “community member” model where organizations or socially-minded initiatives can access the meeting space regularly at an affordable price.

There are two meetings areas available at COS. The two meeting spaces are adjacent and can be booked either together or separately.

Training Room

• 1700 sq ft – includes ensuite kitchenette, lounge, ceiling-mounted LCD projector, projection wall and white board.
• Availability: Monday thru Friday 6:30 am – 9:30 pm | Saturdays & Sundays 8:00 am – 8:00 pm
• Capacity: 100 (flexible set-up) | 60 (classroom style) | 35 (boardroom style)

Meeting Room

• 375 sq ft with open kitchenette, white board.
• Availability: Monday thru Friday 5:00 pm – 9:30 pm | Saturdays & Sundays 8:00 am – 8:00 pm
• Capacity: 20 (boardroom style)

Equipment

We can provide access to onsite AV equipment – laptop, sound system with microphone/speakers, conference phone, and portable translation devices – for an additional fee.

From $75 to $200 for a 4-hour rental (1/2 day)

From $135 to $400 for full daily maximum

Free to $75 for a 4-hour rental (1/2 day)

AV Equipment Access: $60 flat rate

Our fees follow a sliding scale structure. Larger organizations that can afford to pay higher rates will help us provide affordable or free space for emerging groups. Very small or emerging organizations with limited resources that align with our values and purpose will be accommodated.

We invite you to complete the Community Member Application form below if you are interested in using COS now or in the future. If your organization aligns with our values and purpose, we will send you a Booking Space Reservation form to complete and your rental rate will be confirmed as well. Additional information on space use and payment methods will be provided once booking is finalized.

Rental rates may be subject to change. Last-minute booking cancellation fees will apply. We will consider lower rates or waving rental fees for exceptional and emerging grass-roots groups. The Workers’ Action Centre (WAC) and the Ontario Employment Education & Research Centre (OEERC) shall have the right to make the final decision on approval of all applications.
